Guest Relation Manager
Guest relation management is a job challenging tact, intercultural competence, and empathetic communication. As a trained hotel manager, Alexandra Mayer brings these and many other important skills to the table. Since accepting the challenging position as a go-between in Hamburg in April 2015, the Bavarian native has done her very best to offer guests top service and a comfortable stay.
Hamburg is known not only for its port, but also for its stormy weather. How do you keep guests in good spirits despite the rain?
On cold, rainy days in particular, our fully renovated Vier Jahreszeiten Spa is the ideal place to relax: be it with a wellness treatment, in the sauna, the steam bath, or our relaxation room with a real fireplace. Our afternoon tea in the “Hamburger Wohnzimmer” hall (literally the “Hamburg living room”) is also an absolute highlight. Here, we serve traditional British tea, scones, and clotted cream.
The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten was recently fully renovated. What criteria were crucial to the new interior concept, what atmosphere awaits visitors to the hotel?
After complete renovation of all 156 rooms and suites, as well as all five stories, our hotel shines like new: fresh and unconventional, all while remaining classic and timelessly elegant, each room unique. We purposely kept our reception hall very traditional. Besides the interior, it was important for us to equip our hotel with state-of-the-art technology. Each room features a tablet – but to get their keys (let it be known that we still use our classic brass keys in the Grand Hotel style), guests still come to reception personally.
Which of the three hotel restaurants are geared to what kind of gourmet?
No matter whether you enjoy the simple, down-to-earth pleasures or are a real connoisseur, we have something for everybody. The Jahreszeiten Grill serves German-Hanseatic cuisine, prepared with fresh, regional products. At the gourmet restaurant Haerlin, distinguished with two Michelin stars and 19 Gault Millau points, head chef Christoph Rüffer puts together seasonal, creative dishes with international influences. For those looking to treat themselves to something extraordinary, this is the place to be. In fall 2016, our new design restaurant Nikkei Nine will open with an innovative Japanese-Peruvian cuisine concept – I am already looking forward to it!
Where is the most beautiful spot in Hamburg?
Walking towards Blankenese on the port and looking at the container ships, or around the Alster, where the sailboats sway lightly in the wind – for me, the most beautiful spot in Hamburg is by the water. Simply marvelous!
